Princeton’s Board of Trustees have approved the promotion of Assistant Professor Daniel Sheffield to Associate Professor with tenure effective July 1, 2023. Sheffield, who joined the department in 2016, specializes in the religious, intellectual, and social history of the medieval and early modern Persian-speaking world.
The Department of Near Eastern Studies will hold its annual Sophomore Open House for prospective concentrators on Monday, March 27, 2023, from 4:30 to 5:30 in Wallace Hall room 300.

Professor Bernard Haykel has been appointed to the Nelson Mandela Chair in Afro Asian Studies, which is a visiting professorship at Mahatma Gandhi University in Kottayam, Kerala, India.
