Senior Thesis Funding

Academic Year Funding

The Near Eastern Studies Department has a limited amount of funds for travel and other research expenses during the academic year for NES seniors who are writing their theses and who have not already received summer funding for thesis research. The Office of Undergraduate Research (OUR) also has funds to support thesis research, and it is highly encouraged to apply to (OUR) in addition to NES and various funders that meets the field of interest to your project.

When to Apply

  • In the spring of junior year, rising seniors may apply for funding to support senior thesis research to be conducted during the summer
  • In mid fall, students may apply for funding for research to be conducted during winter break/intersession.

**It is strongly encouraged to start working on your application materials early so that you have ample time to meet the strict deadlines set by NES and various funding sources.

Eligible seniors interested in Senior Thesis Research Funding (STRF) may apply for funding  from the NES department and from OUR via the SAFE (Student Activities Funding Engine) website.

For fall STRF application period information, please see the O.U.R. page.

Because resources are limited, no guaranty of funds can be made, and students are advised to apply to all potential sources of funds.
