Event Description

Scott Lucas is associate professor of Islamic Studies in the School of Middle Eastern and North African Studies at the University of Arizona.  He received his BA from Yale University in NELC and Political Science, and his MA and PhD from the University of Chicago in NELC.  He has published on Sunni hadith criticism, law, and tafsir.  Professor Lucas's unabridged translation of thirty selections from al-Tabari's Qur'an commentary was published in two volumes in 2017. Currently, he is enjoying an ACLS Fellowship for 2018-19 and a membership in the School of Historical Studies at the Institute for Advanced Studies in order to pursue projects on Zaydi legal tafsir and theology.
