Mayte Green-Mercado is Assistant Professor of History at Rutgers University—Newark. She specializes in early modern Islamic, Iberian, and Mediterranean history. Her recent publications include the book Visions of Deliverance. Moriscos and the Politics of Prophecy in the Early Modern Mediterranean (Cornell University Press, December, 2019), and she edited a special issue titled “Speaking the End Times: Prophecy and Messianism in Early Modern Eurasia,” JESHO- Journal of the Economic and Social History of the Orient 61 (2018): 18-90. She has written articles on Morisco and Mediterranean apocalypticism, the forced conversion of the Moriscos, and ethnic groups in Early Modern Spain. Her next book project will focus on Morisco displacements in the Mediterranean during the sixteenth century, before their forced expulsion in 1609.
