Murat Bozluolcay has been awarded the Syrian Studies Association Dissertation for his dissertation, “Coalescence of the Empire: Administration of the Provincial Economy in Ottoman Damascus, 1820–1860.” The Prize Committee described it as “superbly researched and powerfully written, focusing exhaustively on the provincial economy of Damascus between 1820-1860” and called it “a masterful historical study of an era when regional Ottoman autonomy and the extraterritoriality of European interests coalesced.” Bozluolcay is currently a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Rank of Instructor at the Institute on the Formation of Knowledge, University of Chicago.
