Second-year Ph.D. student Adrien Mercat received the 2024 Walter G. Andrews Ottoman Turkish Translation Award in the intermediate category for his translation of a newspaper article titled ‘Nerede yaşıyoruz?” (Where Do We Live?). Adrien’s research interests focus on the intellectual milieu in which ideas of national consciousness emerged and how they were shaped by the multiethnic fabric of the city of Tbilisi.
