Garrett Professor in Foreign Affairs, Chairman of the Near Eastern Studies Department, and Director of the Program in Near Eastern Studies M. Şükrü Hanioğlu has been awarded the 2012 President’s Grand Prize for Culture and Arts in the field of history. The announcement cited Hanioğlu’s “bringing Turkish history to a universal dimension by developing an authentic historical voice and molding current events with his rich historical knowledge.”
