The Final Public Oral Examination of Jamie Pelling was held on Wednesday, May 17. Pelling’s dissertation, “Feeling Like a State: Anxiety and Optimism in the Late Ottoman Empire,” was advised by Michael Reynolds (NES) and Julia Elyachar (Anthropology and PIIRS). Examiners included M. Şükrü Hanioǧlu (NES) and Evren Savcı (Yale University).
