Assistant Professor of Near Eastern Studies and History M’hamed Oualdi has been awarded a European Research Council consolidator grant for 5 years (2019–2023) for his research project about slave testimonies in North Africa during the abolition era (1810s–1920s). ERC Consolidator grants are awarded to “researchers of any nationality with 7–12 years of experience since completion of PhD …, a scientific track record showing great promise and an excellent research proposal” and “are designed to support researchers … at the stage of consolidating their own research team or programme.”
