Baki Tezcan, who earned his Ph.D. in Near Eastern Studies in 2001, is President-elect of the Ottoman and Turkish Studies Association (OTSA). Tezcan, who is Professor of History and of Middle East/South Asian Studies at UC Davis, will succeed another Near Eastern Studies Ph.D., Amy Singer (1989, Professor of Middle Eastern and African History at Tel Aviv University) as president. Other OTSA board members and officials with NES or Princeton University ties are board members Senem Aslan (Associate Professor of Politics at Bates College) and Will Smiley (Assistant Professor of Humanities at the University of New Hampshire), both of whom were postdoctoral research associates in NES, and Treasurer Patricia Blessing, who earned her Ph.D. from Princeton’s Department of Art and Archaeology and who is an assistant professor of the same department.
