Bio/Description

Ellen Ambrosone joined Princeton University Library as the South Asian Studies Librarian in 2019. She has a Ph.D. in South Asian Languages and Civilizations from the University of Chicago, where she completed her dissertation, "Making Modern Malayalam: Literary and Educational Practices in Nineteenth-Century Kerala." Ellen is the chair of the South Asia Materials Project (SAMP), the chair of the Committee on South Asian Libraries and Documentation (CONSALD), and a member of the Association for Asian Studies (AAS).

Ellen supports the Program in South Asian Studies, the Center for Global India, and all faculty and students at Princeton who conduct research on South Asia. Her current interests include collecting South Asian ephemera, cultivating digital resources for the study of South Asia, and supporting digital humanities scholarship. She is also interested in the history of print, the emergence of public and university libraries and reading rooms, and language reform in South Asia.
